Music Lessons

We have been experimenting how to make different sounds with a variety of musical instruments. How many of the instruments can you recognise?

Welcome to our first blog of 2013.

Mrs Leeks and I have thoroughly enjoyed our first two weeks back and thought you might like to catch up with some of our latest photos.

Our Christmas play was very well received. Thanks for all your help with the costumes.

Even Zippy had his own party hat!

No danger of any peeping!

We had lots of fun making the puppets in DT. A huge thank you to all the people who came in and helped out. It makes all the difference and also meant that I didn't have to thread twenty needles by myself- phew!

Just to give you advance notice... We are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March, when both the staff and children have the opportunity to come to school as a character from a book.

Look out for photos from our Indian Experience session this coming Friday.

Children in Need Day - November 2012

On Friday 16th November, we had lots of fun at school, in order to raise money for Children in Need. Firstly, we were allowed to wear our pyjamas. (Some of us even brought our favourite teddies to join in the fun!)

We baked Pudsey Bear biscuits and once they were cold, we iced them. The best bit was sprinkling Hundreds and Thousands to make it look like Pudsey's fur. We used cherries for his mouth and raisins for his eyes. I'm not too sure how many of the biscuits would have actually arrived home, but hopefully, you'll be able to spot Pudsey in one or two of the photos. (By the way, did you know that Pudsey was named after the town in which the Graphic Designer who created him, was born? No, neither did I until last week.)

We tried to imagine what it must be like if you cannot see properly. One of us wore a blindfold and tried to navigate around the classroom by listening to our friends giving instructions. This was much more difficult than it sounds! Secondly we played a game where we had to shut our eyes and try to draw objects which other people described.

Kestrel Class children became designers for the day and decided what outfits might suit Pudsey. Boots had some exciting activities on their website and we enjoyed doing some maths  which was based around various Children in Need activities.

It was lovely to see the children having so much fun, whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause. Thank you to you all for your donations.

Enjoy looking through the photos.

What a busy week!

Hello

Last Friday, we held our Harvest Festival celebration at school. (Unfortunately we were unable to go to church because of a problem with the spire.) Kestrel Class performed a song called 'Cauliflowers Fluffy' and they were superstars. Don't worry, the children hadn't fallen asleep in the last photo - they were impersonating broad beans sleeping in their blankety bed. We will be singing the song again, on Thursday afternoon, for those parents who are able to come into school. (Please see today's newsletter for more details.)

Apologies for the delay in posting the photos, but as you will be aware, it has been a rather hectic week at Caythorpe.

Look out for our amazing Maths homework using 3D shapes, which will be appearing next week. There will also be some photos of our Music session from yesterday.

Have a great weekend.

Welcome Back

Hello and welcome to the first blog of the new school year, from Kestrel Class.

Mrs Walker, Mrs Laing and I have had a great couple of weeks getting to know our new class. The children are adapting well to their new routines.

In Maths, we have been investigating 2D shapes and talking about the properties which the different shapes have. For example, we now know that a circle has 1 side, but no corners. We had fun making our own shapes from geo-strips. (Photos to follow...)This week, we will be sorting shapes according to their properties.

In Art, we have been observing our facial features to help us to draw portraits of our friends. I was amazed by the level of concentration shown by the children and their attention to detail. Some of our work is on display on our Celebration Display in Kestrel Class, so please pop your heads round the door and have a look, next time you are in school.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via the green Home to School diary or before or after school.
