Joseph's Coat
We have been creating repeating patterns using ICT and printing, as part of our latest Design and Technology project. On Friday, we made a printing tile (using cardboard) and then painted the individual parts of the tile in primary colours. We carefully placed the tile on a piece of white material, which we had cut out using a template, and then continued to print this repeatedly, in order to make the front of our Joseph coat. Now all that remains for us to do is stitch the back and front of the coat together. More pictures will be posted when they are finished, so keep checking our blog.

Which came first?
Don't tell Miss Turner but last week we borrowed her Butterfly Garden to help us understand how a caterpillar changes into a butterfly!
We had a very interesting conversation in trying to decide which came first, the butterfly or the egg! Some of us decided that we wanted to be very intelligent scientists when we grew up so that we could earn lots of money by finding the answer to that question! So, what do you think? Which came first, the butterfly or the egg???

What do Sunflower Seeds Need to Grow?
In science, we are thinking about what plants need to grow. We think that a sunflower seed needs light, warmth, soil and water to grow.
To see if we are right we decided to each plant our own seed with light, warmth, soil and light. We then planted four other seeds as follows:
One with no light (in a cupboard).
One with no water.
One with no warmth (in the fridge!)
One with no soil.
We are watching them very carefully to see if our predictions are correct!
We are also keeping track of how our own seeds are growing and recording our findings in our Sunflower Diaries. We hope to be able to plant the sunflowers in Kestrel's garden after half term (although this will depend on whether Mrs Leeks keeps them all alive over the holiday!!)
Take a look at some of our photos so far!

ICT - Term 5
In ICT, we have been creating our own pictures. So far this term, we have used the flood fill tool and selected our colours in order to make our own images of Elmer. This week, we used a website in order to create images using blocks of colour. The results were very striking! http://www.stephen.com/mondrimat/index.html
