World Book Day

As part of World Book Day, we wrote our own 'Three Little Pigs' story (using ICT).

Year 2 had a wonderful time sharing our favourite books with Year 5.

Even Winnie the Pooh made an appearance in Kestrel Class!

On Friday afternoon, we welcomed our Mums into school. They spent some time making 3D daffodils with us. A big thank you to everyone who visited. We hope you liked the flowers and that you had an enjoyable Mother's Day.

Assembly

Friday was a very busy day. It started with Kestrel Class's Assembly.

Design and Technology Project

Kestrel children brought in books to investigate how images in books move. This is before we try to make some of our own moving images.

Dame Edna eat your heart out!

The girls looking at the way the pictures move.

Pylons were raised by a thin piece of cotton which was attached to each pylon.

This book opened up to create a huge 3D image.

This image moved by pulling the edge of the book.

Our Great Fire of London Day!

On Monday 11th February we dedicated a whole day to our topic of the Great Fire of London.

We decided to make some bread as Thomas Farriner would have done for Charles II. Thomas Farriner was the King's baker at the time of the Great Fire and it was in his baker's shop that the Fire started.

Here we are weighing the ingredients, mixing them and then kneading the dough. We got VERY messy!

First of all we weighed the flour.

 We added salt.

 We mixed!

Can you see the yeast? That makes the bread rise!

Whilst the dough was rising we had great fun participating in a Great Fire of London workshop provided by a historical theatre group called Partake. We acted out the story of the Great Fire using props. We even dressed up in clothes that people would have dressed in in 1666!

Take a look at some of the photos!

Pretending to be rats spreading the Plague!

"Ring a ring a roses" a song about the Plague in 1665

Uh Oh! Thomas Farriner has fallen asleep!

His apron has been left to dry by the fire!

 FIRE!!

The fire spread!

Time to put it out with buckets and water!

DON'T PANIC!!

We're not quick enough! The fire is spreading too fast!

Time to get in to our boats on the River Thames and row ourselves to safety!

What a great day!
