Pancakes

Okay, it might not be the normal time of year for discussing pancakes, but as part of our Science topic of Changing Materials, we decided to do some cooking.

First, we used our senses to smell, taste, feel, listen to (this one made us laugh!) and look at the properties of bread. Then we put it in the toaster and made the same observations after the bread had been heated.

After we had discussed the vocabulary for the changes that occur when bread is heated, we thought about food which changes from a liquid to a solid. This involved making a pancake batter with 300ml milk, 100g flour, a pinch of salt and 1 egg. (This also helped us to revise the measuring which we've been doing in Maths).

We realised that the egg hadn't disappeared, but that it had been combined with the other ingredients to form a liquid.

Then, we cooked the pancake batter and watched it turn from a liquid to a solid. The best bit was yet to come and was a good incentive for us to think of how to describe our observations.

After we talked about the changes that happened from the batter to the pancake, we ate it. (Most of us thought that was the best bit!)

Artwork inspired by nature

Our art topic this term is Mother Nature. This afternoon, we used a variety of materials to create a collage.

Cocktails

To help us with our capacity work, we made cocktails. We decided that we needed a recipe, so that we could make the same cocktail again. Here are some of our photos showing us measuring.

Happy Father's Day

We hope you have all had a wonderful day and that you enjoyed receiving your cards. Here are some of us after we had just finished making them.

Star of the Day

Some of you who have been Star of the Day this week, will have noticed that we have a new trophy, which was very kindly donated by one of our pupils. Many thanks to Charlotte's Grandad. As you will see from the photo, it is a marked improvement on the old one!

Share Afternoon

Many thanks to everyone who came into school this afternoon. We had a lovely time and managed to squeeze in some art, poetry writing, dancing and a few cuddles with Sammy. Not bad to say it was all in the space of an hour.

Sammy Time

Kestrel Class are very lucky this term because we are looking after Sammy. Last term we had the highest attendance in the school and we got Sammy. Each afternoon, if we have been good, we bring him in the classroom. Today, he was eating cucumber and tomato so we think he enjoyed himself as much as we did. He pulled the cucumber off the plate, so we think we ought to teach him some table manners!
