We decided to make some bread as Thomas Farriner would have done for Charles II. Thomas Farriner was the King's baker at the time of the Great Fire and it was in his baker's shop that the Fire started.
Here we are weighing the ingredients, mixing them and then kneading the dough. We got VERY messy!
First of all we weighed the flour.
We added salt.
We mixed!
Can you see the yeast? That makes the bread rise!
Whilst the dough was rising we had great fun participating in a Great Fire of London workshop provided by a historical theatre group called Partake. We acted out the story of the Great Fire using props. We even dressed up in clothes that people would have dressed in in 1666!
Take a look at some of the photos!

Uh Oh! Thomas Farriner has fallen asleep!
His apron has been left to dry by the fire!
FIRE!!
The fire spread!
Time to put it out with buckets and water!
DON'T PANIC!!
We're not quick enough! The fire is spreading too fast!
Time to get in to our boats on the River Thames and row ourselves to safety!
What a great day!
