Mother's Day Service

Firstly, many thanks to all the parents who attended our second Parents' Evening last night.

Secondly, we hope everyone enjoyed our school service at St Vincent's this afternoon, when we performed a song called 'Someone Special'. It was good to see so many people in church.

Wishing all our Mums a very happy Mother's Day for Sunday.

Parents' Evening

Thank you to all the parents who attended the first of our two Parents' Evenings tonight. It was good to meet some parents for the first time and to have chance to talk to those of you who we see regularly, but don't always have time for a longer chat with.

The website for times tables which we talked about  with some parents is:
www.learnyourtables.co.uk

(We will add more relevant websites soon.)

The second Parents' Evening is on Thursday 15th March and we look forward to seeing some of you then.

Visit to St Vincent's Church

Last Thursday, we went to St Vincent's church and had a talk to Reverend Freshney - thank you very much for showing us round. She told us all about the stained glass windows, the font, what happens in a wedding ceremony and we were even allowed to go in the chancel! As part of a community project, we will shortly be designing our very own stained glass windows - watch this space!

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and we all had a chance to make some potions. Despite the ingredients sounding horrible, we were surprised how delicious they tasted and we became experts at measuring using millilitres. There will be a team point to the first pupil in Kestrel class who, after reading this, tells me how many millilitres there are in one litre.

On Friday afternoon, we started to make our 3d models of homes, which we had designed in a previous DT session. Some of us made bungalows and others decided to make houses. One of the next steps is to add either a door bell or a light switch, to link in to our Science work.

Kestrel Class Assembly

Hello and welcome to our first blog.

On Friday 2nd March, it was Kestrel Class's assembly. As parents were waiting for the rest of the school children to arrive in the hall, they watched a slideshow of some photographs of us which were taken on 'Children in Need' day, when we were all wearing our pyjamas and looking quite amusing! The remaining photos were of our puppets which we made as part of our DT project.

The assembly focused on all our hard work from Term 3. During this term, our theme was 'Night and Day'. In Literacy, we made non-fiction books about a variety of minibeasts, using our scientific knowledge and also using our observational skills we had developed during our art lessons. We brought the books and showed them to our family, friends and everyone else who came to watch us. We showed how to play a game called 'Guess Who', which helped us to understand how to create a branching database in ICT. One of our favourite parts of the assembly was singing our five times tables using a link to the Education City website. We even managed to get everyone in the hall singing along with us! Finally, we introduced the audience to our puppets that we made in the previous term. Now that the display has been taken down, we can finally take them home - hooray!

Even though some of us were a little bit worried about performing to such a large audience, we managed to control our nerves and did very well. The only disappointment was that poor Theo missed it, as he was ill. We hope he is feeling better now!
